Rainbow Journey With SHALMIAK
When I first began experimenting with fabric designs, I was encouraged to create patterns that would tell a story. That’s how RAINBOWPHANT was born. At first, I honestly thought the design was a bit too much - almost overly childish (even for children!) and maybe even a little tacky. But to my surprise, it struck a chord. Somehow, people connected with it. The playful energy, the joy, and the unapologetic boldness resonated far more deeply than I expected.

When RAINBOWPHANT found its audience, it gave me the courage to keep experimenting. I realized that designs didn’t always need to be safe, polished, or conventional - sometimes the things that feel too bold or too playful are what people need most.
One rainbow design led to another. One of them was SWEET DAYS - softer in mood, yet still carrying the same spirit of joy. While RAINBOWPHANT especially resonated with the German audience, SWEET DAYS found its fans in Finland as well. It showed me how universal the rainbow could be, yet how each interpretation could speak differently to people in different places.

Then came HIPPIE DAY with its cheerful rainbow arcs and groovy hippie buses. It carried the spirit of freedom and endless summer, and quickly became a favorite. The pattern was reimagined in many colorways, each one adding a new twist to its playful, nostalgic vibe.

Over time, rainbow designs grew into much more than individual patterns - they became a cornerstone of SHALMIAK’s identity. What began as a playful experiment with RAINBOWPHANT turned into a signature language of color: bold, joyful, and instantly recognizable. Rainbows gave SHALMIAK a way to express freedom, positivity, and individuality, and they connected with people across cultures and countries.

Vibrant rainbows have become the thread running through collections, one of the clearest symbols of what SHALMIAK stands for. And this journey is far from over. Rainbows will continue to inspire new stories, new patterns, and new ways of celebrating color - always with joy at the heart of it all.
